Files and inputs in the browser
When you select a PDF, a JPG or PNG image or a DOCX file, the matching tool reads it on your device. The file name, file size, required content and the result are processed there. The current program code does not send the selected document contents to a processing server. The original file is not overwritten; you save the result as a separate file.
This also applies to text recognition in PDFs: page images and recognized text are processed in the browser. For recognition, the page loads program components and the data for the chosen language from the same website. A saved OCR result may contain searchable text, even if the visible scanned page looks the same.
The calculators also process your numbers and settings in the browser. With the upload limit calculator, you can select files to check their size and, where supported, page count. The exact technical process is described under File processing and security.
What is stored on your device
The program code doesn't create a permanent document store or an editing history. For the OCR language data, additional storage by the recognition module is disabled; the normal browser cache for loaded resources is not affected by this.
We cannot promise immediate, complete deletion of working memory. On shared devices, you should pay particular attention to your saved results. If the download folder is in cloud storage, its synchronization may transfer the file there.
Your choices on appearance, analytics and advertising
Only when you use the color scheme switch does the website store your choice. On later visits, it reads the value from pdf-theme again. It contains only the chosen display mode, no file names or document contents. Without a saved choice, the appearance may follow your operating system's setting.
You remove the saved choice via the site data in your browser's settings. Optional analytics and advertising currently stay disabled, whatever you choose here.
At the bottom of the screen, you can accept or decline optional analytics and advertising services. Only once you make a choice does the website save the entry pdf-privacy-preferences. It contains only your two decisions, a version number, and the times it was saved and expires. It doesn't contain file names or document content. Your choice applies for 180 days. If it has expired or is invalid, it isn't taken into account until you decide again. In the current local version, analytics and advertising remain switched off even after you consent. No providers are loaded and no data is sent to such services.
You can reopen the selection via the footer or the button below. There you can change and save it or withdraw your consent. When you withdraw, the website saves both optional services as declined. This doesn't necessarily delete the entry. You can remove it completely via the website data in your browser settings. If your browser doesn't allow storage, your choice only applies while the page is open. In that case, the website shows an error message.
Visiting the website and loading resources
For a tool to start, your browser must retrieve the page and the required program files. These include scripts, fonts, PDF components and, for OCR, the recognition data, among others. These connections are necessary even if your documents are then processed on your device. Plan on an internet connection for the first start.
Hosting and connection data
The website is served via Cloudflare Pages. The public preview is available at www.pdfkomprimieren.com and pdfkomprimieren.pages.dev. This service delivers the pages, program files, fonts and OCR language data to your browser.
Every time a page or program file is loaded, your browser sends a network request. To answer it, the host receives technically necessary data: your IP address, the date and time, the requested address, details about the connection and information your browser usually sends along, such as its browser identifier and language setting. The contents of the documents you select in a tool are not part of this. The current program code processes them locally in your browser and does not upload them. The connection data still arises because your browser has to load the website and its program components.
It has not yet been confirmed which access logs will be kept once the site is published, how long they will be retained or on which legal basis this processing will take place. The full details of the controller are also still missing. On these points, this notice is therefore incomplete. You can find the project details confirmed so far in the legal notice.
The host's responses currently include the NEL and Report-To headers. These ask your browser to report certain network errors that occur while loading the website to a.nel.cloudflare.com. Whether your browser supports such reports and actually sends them depends on the browser and the individual case. How long such data is retained, on which legal basis this happens and whether a reviewed data processing agreement is in place has not yet been clarified.
Contact and data protection rights
Intended contact address of PDF Komprimieren (Germany) for privacy questions: support@pdfkomprimieren.com. Whether messages arrive there has not yet been confirmed in the local version. Please be as specific as possible about the page and the action your question relates to. Send a description first, without any confidential documents.
An email is sent via your email service. The sender address, message and any attachments are processed by the email services involved. A document you attach to an email therefore leaves your device.
The form on the contact page doesn't send anything itself. From your email address, the selected topic, the message and the optional name, it prepares an email draft in your browser. Only when you open the draft are these details passed to the email app or webmail service you choose. You decide there whether to send the message. The form doesn't offer file attachments.
When preparing the draft, the website sends no request to a sending or contact service and doesn't create its own message database. If you send the message from your email app, your email provider and the email services involved process it like any other email. How long it is kept there and in the receiving mailbox depends on how they are set up.
Insofar as the GDPR applies to processing of your personal data, you can, subject to the respective conditions, request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing or data portability, and object to processing. Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it for the future. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority.
